“I feel like I’m out of control with food…

It’s like there’s a constant battle inside of me. Can’t I just rest a minute and eat this piece of chocolate without hating myself after?

*Sigh

I felt the frustration in Martina’s voice.

She recently applied to my Body Breakthrough Strategy Session.

And we were chatting to see if she was the right fit for my coaching program

As she told me her story, I listened…

“I've struggled my whole life with like, body image and food issues.

To make things worse, ever since I had the kids, the weight gained from those pregnancies never really went away

...so my clothes don’t fit properly...

...And doing exercise while having extra weight puts this extra strain on my body causing back pain and joint pain. I feel broken.”

Then she told me what happened a week earlier that lit a fire inside her…

Her 5-year old daughter wanted to ride her bike around their neighborhood...

But she was so exhausted from work and doing stuff around the house that she just wanted to crash and do nothing.

So she just stayed on the sofa and helped herself to her kids’ animal cookies…

She was just mindlessly eating cookies when she heard a loud honk from the outside…

Her daughter was on the ground in front of a pick-up truck.

She wanted to immediately go to her daughter’s rescue, but it felt like she was in slow motion…. she felt how heavy her body was…

When she finally got to her daughter… she was thankful, while catching her breath.

It was just a couple of minor bruises… nothing serious.

But when she was about to help her daughter stand up…. She had a hard time bending to reach out to her.

She felt broken, again.

She decided right then and there that something had to change.

She must not only lose weight but also be healthy.

“I can't take care of my kids if I’m always going to feel broken.”

When she read one of my emails…

She immediately scheduled a breakthrough call with me.

So there we were talking...

“If I had a magic wand and could grant you any wish, what would you want to happen to your body?” I asked.

“Well, I’m probably dreaming here…

But I would like to feel that my clothes fit properly…I want to feel sexy, again.

And it would be AMAZING to have more energy. Be flexible, no pain, happier, more relaxed and calm, and just be healthy.

I just want the freedom to be able to eat the food that I want, not feel guilty and not deprive myself, and still lose weight and be healthier.

I want to have the energy and stamina to be the best parent and wife for my family.

“And what’s stopping you from doing that now?” I asked.

Silence. 

Another *Sigh

“I just don’t know how to get there…

Or if it’s even possible for me.

I feel like I've tried every different program that I can think of...

...like, oh, go paleo, go this, go keto. 

Low-card diet...

Slow-carb diet…

Vegan…

Intermittent fasting...name it! I have probably tried it.

I also tried to exercise more but then it's kind of going back and forth. And I just feel like, none of them work for some reason. 

“I have no idea where to go from here and what to do next” 

I just don’t know if there’s a diet or exercise or system that’s gonna work for me.

“I’m tired of having to lose weight only to gain it back again”

“Martina,”  I said…

“I know how you feel.”

“You DO?!” she blurted.

“Yes, I do. Because I’ve struggled with food and my weight before too.

The good news is…

In the same way you sneeze and cough when you have a cold…

Your challenges are just symptoms of an underlying problem

And when you cure that problem, the symptoms disappear.

Would you like to know what the real problem is?”

“Well yeah absolutely!” Martina said with a glimmer of hope in her voice.

“Well…”

I paused, wondering whether I should explain further.

“Let me just say this…

You probably didn’t develop the skill needed to lose weight, be healthy, and have more energy. Once you develop this skill you’ll never feel out of control with food again.

It’s such a simple skill that no one ever really thought about developing it...
